Construction of two massive buildings that will be home to new security screening checkpoints serving 48 airline gates has transitioned to a significant new phase. Several months of preparatory work to evaluate site conditions, refine design specifications and carefully remove physical obstacles laid the groundwork for production of foundations and columns to move forward.

Considered one of the greatest hockey players of the modern NHL, Alex Ovechkin finally got to raise the Stanley Cup earlier this year when he led the Washington Capitals to a championship victory following a 4-3 win in Game 5 of the finals against the Vegas Golden Knights on June 7.

In a tucked away beach town on the southern coast of North Carolina, Wilmington has quickly become a frequent destination for tourists and neighboring-town folk alike. Passengers looking out the window from Terminal C at Reagan National may notice a manmade twelve foot high grass-covered hill next to the airfield. The hill is a critical component that will enable the operation of a new 14-gate concourse to replace Gate 35X, as part of “Project Journey.”

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival takes place this summer on the National Mall between 12t and 14th streets from June 27-July 1 and July 4-8, 2018. Programs run most days from 11:30-6pm and evening concerts start at 6:30. Accessibility services are available. This year’s festival highlights cultural creativity from Armenia and Catalonia, plus the 40th anniversary Sisterfire concert on July 8.
